Scandinavian Mineral Gallery - Høgtuvaite for sale.

Høgtuvaite crystals in gneiss. From Høgtuva, Norway.

(Click on the picture for a larger image)

This is a nice specimen with a number of black crystals of the rare beryllium mineral høgtuvaite. There are a number of crystals as can be seen on the third picture. Since høgtuvaite is quite fragile there are only a few small areas with undamaged exposed crystal surfaces.

This is a very representative rock from this locality. The bedrock consists of older gneisses with a high concentration of beryllium. The høgtuvaite is specific for the beryllium mineralisation and is used to locate the beryllium ore.
The type locality is outside the town Mo i Rana, close to the arctic circle. It lies high up on a mountain above the tree limit and is covered by snow most of the year. Høgtuvaite is only known from one other place, the Ilmen mountains in Russia.

Specimen size : 4.5 x 3 x 1.5 cm / 1.8 x 1.2 x 0.6 inch
Locality : Høgtuva, Mo i Rana, Norway.
