Høgtuvaite crystals in gneiss. From Høgtuva, Norway.

This is a nice specimen with a number of black crystals of the rare beryllium mineral høgtuvaite.
There are a number of crystals as can be seen on the third picture. Since høgtuvaite is quite fragile
there are only a few small areas with undamaged exposed crystal surfaces.
This is a very representative rock from this locality. The bedrock consists of older gneisses
with a high concentration of beryllium. The høgtuvaite is specific for the beryllium mineralisation
and is used to locate the beryllium ore.
