Large staurolite crystal from Fauske, Norway.
Large scale picture here
This must be the larges staurolite crystal I've seen from Fauske, Norway.
The largest crystal is 2.5 cm long and 12x11 mm in cross section. It is lacking the
termination but the other crystal surfaces and edges are very distinct and not rounded
as most staurolite occurs. There are at least four crystals but it isn't possible to see
if they are twins, the matrix is obscuring the center.
The bottom of the specimen is a natural surface, so there are no crystal surfaces to talk
about on that side.
Collected in 2000.
